Who, What and Why of a job search.

I have been getting a lot of questions/ statements from Job Seekers recently about how they are struggling to find a new job.

I spent a lot of time over the weekend thinking this through and concluded that many people are trying to run before they can walk when it comes to job hunting.

It may be worth going right back to basics and asking "what is my target goal career-wise?" This can be broken down into smaller chunks by asking yourself the Who, What, Why questions.

1. Who are you?
2. What do you want?
3. When you think about your greatest achievements, your greatest successes, what you are most proud of, which 3 come to the forefront of your mind?
4. Where do you want to work?
5. Why are you the best candidate for the job?
6. How will you add value to an organisation?

Take some time to think about these questions and once you have the answers, you will be better positioned to write an outstanding CV and you will be able to conduct a targeted job search.

Question 4 for me is the key to your success, once you know where you want to work and why you will be a huge success there, it's much easier to write an appropriate cover letter explaining clearly why you are the best fit.

It takes a lot more effort to conduct this type of analysis than simply apply for any jobs that you think are suitable. You will stand a much higher chance of being successful as you know exactly why you are the right fit for your target companies.
