What does your email address say about you?

My business partner has been off for a few weeks now so I have been doing more of the admin stuff and the one thing that really stands out to me in many cases is the whacky email addresses that people use. Then this morning I read a RecruitingBlogs article about this very point. Although a lot of the analogies Gavin uses are American, they are very appropriate to my own thoughts. I give you an example: over the weekend we had someone register with the email address of bighandsomehunk@......com. Now I don't know about you, but if he applied to a job I had advertised firstly I would laugh a lot and then secondly I would have to think really hard about the suitability for my job.

I suppose it really depends on the job being recruited for, as if you were looking for a crazy advertising executive, then you may consider reading this person's application but on the whole I think most people would completely disregard his application just by his email address.

When you are undertaking a job search, please create a professional email address, try and use your full name in some way. Don't give the reader of your application an excuse to disregard you before they have even read your CV.
