Axe falls on Quebecor
I was shocked to read this morning that last night 320 workers at Quebecor in Corby were to lose their jobs immediately.
It has been well documented that Quebecor have been experiencing issues over the last few months and the Corby site has been up for sale.
Tony Burke, Assistant General Secretary of Unite, who represents the workers at Corby said ""The receiver called an urgent meeting yesterday where we were told the customers wanted to move the work because there was no sign of an immediate buyer.
"We will be discussing terms for people who will stay on for a short time to fulfil existing contracts but the redundancies will begin immediately."
Some staff will stay on to complete outstanding contracts but it is expected the factory will shut its doors within weeks.
