A fairytale in Printland
George who owns oZZle, wrote this fantastic fairytale that I thought is worth sharing. Before we get "you can't say that" comments, all characters depicted in this tale are pure fiction!
"There was once a mighty King who owned most of the property in Printmagland, he was a greedy and selfish King charging the poor people of Printmagland extortionate land rates and taxes. The people in Printmagland were good hard working individuals but found it difficult to make ends meet because of these heavy taxes charged by the greedy King.
One day a young farmer came along and opened a new country Digiland next door, where the land was fertile and fresh water flowed freely to feed the crops. The young farmer gave people who joined him the chance to farm and harvest the land at much reduced prices and supported them by providing them with new and very efficient labour saving tools. The people flourished, their children were well clothed and fed.
The old wicked King was very unhappy and in an attempt to destroy the new land, tried to coax his people back from Digiland by promising them trinkets. None returned and the King grew more and more angry by the day. What could he do, his extortionate taxes were drying up, his population reducing by the day!
Life was good for the friends and families who had moved to the new land, they no longer feared the old King and their own personal wealth and property was building. Most evenings after a rewarding day at work, families played and enjoyed the full fruits of their labour in the gentle evening sunshine.
In a rage of anger at the loss of his previously assured wealth, the old King announced he would open some of his best land to the people for free for the whole of the next summer, if only they would return.
As most of his people had now tasted and lived the better life in the new land, very very few but for the greedy and foolish returned.
Needless to say after a poor summer past the Old King reaped his anger down upon all of his people. Taxes were increased to even higher than before, they had been given the same old barren fields to try and scratch a meagre living during the cold, wet and windy winter that followed.
Nearing starvation and suffering from frostbite his remaining people in Printmagland now knew they needed an alternative as a slow death of the old King, perhaps even themselves was inevitable.
They continued to be fearful of change but one evening their children’s hunger left them with little option but to despatch a small delegation to meet with some old and now wealthy friends who had moved to the new land. On hearing of the plight of the people from the old country, the good people of Digiland were horrified and immediately gave them warm vegetable soup, fresh bread and additional clothing to protect both them and their children from the cold night air.
That evening sitting around a bright crackling log fire, it was agreed by all that they would not finance the old King’s wickedness anymore and never go back to the lands that they had been taxed so heavily for.
All were made welcome in the new land and they were provided with new tools with which they farrowed the fertile lush land and prosperity shone down upon them forever more.
