Is your CV full of cliche's?

Your CV is your sales document or your personal ad and it's down to you to truly make it stand out from the crowd.

Unfortunately too many people use common overused words that don't actually tell the reader/employer anything. Here are a few that we see regularly:

Responsible for - Every job has responsibility, prospective employers don't care what you are responsible for, they care about what you achieved.

Team Player - Do you honestly believe that someone would write on their CV that they are not a team player? Of course they wouldn't. What you should do though is give an example of how you are a team player. eg - I worked with different departments to achieve "x" and my role was "y".

Results orientated - Of course you are! It is better to quantify how and what you achieved. Have you saved your company money? How much did you save? How did you save the money?

Excellent Interpersonal Skills - What does this actually mean? How effective a communicator were you, again give examples. It is important that you do not leave this open for interpretation, be specific about the different communication skills you have used in the past.

It's worth having a read of your CV and eliminating these commonly used words and replace them with real life examples.
